India Needs

Human rights and basic rights may be a farce to those who seems to make our country a nation, which would rule the world. People do not think that mankind is in a situation where they are not able to satisfy their basic human needs. Since, Chanakya and his theory on diplomacy, he noticed the corruption embracing people and their will to defy the voice of the people. Corruption is a phenomenon which can never go away from the civilized society owing to a simple theory of economics: “Human want are unlimited.”

It is the people who must take the steps to bell the cat of corruption, which has engulfed our nation. Political ignorance and Bureaucratic dominance of semi-literate politicians often takes away the fundamental rights of commoners. We need not have ‘Magic Wand’ as the honourable Prime Minister said on the Independence Day speech But we might as well have a weep to skin the corrupts. People of India are tolerant but the bureaucracy and politicians are functioning as if late 18th century France has taken its step into Indian society. Sitting in my small drawing room with a computer and a TV, I realize that gallows are being made, and if the bureaucracy and the politicians do not fall in line with the people and the fundamental of Indian society: many Charles Daney and Sydney Carten would be killed along with the corrupts.

If it is a crime in this country to speak the truth then I am a criminal. If the authorities think that my voice would be or could be demolished then they do not understand the voice of a simple common person. How many bullets do the authorities have? Is it a billion? Let them fire those billion but we would not stop till the corrupt are not being punished. Let’s take the bullets and be the martyrs than live a life of cowardice and fear.

Think about what you can do to support Anna; write, get and gather in the roads and be sides all of you would find an Indian in you and be proud of it. It is not the fault of India that India is corrupt, just like the fact that terrorism is not a religion.

Let us fight against the system and not against the Indians. Let us make the change and give a pure life to the new genarations.

The Great India

Our world is a great place to live. Mankind has made this beautiful place a home with Love. In spite of that at this point of time, the world is passing through a situation which is not desirable. Our great nation is also feeling the heat of the problem of other nations. Standing and speaking on our Independence Day has given me an opportunity where I would like to emphasize on the responsibilities that we, the people with disabilities must perform towards our nation.

Our forefathers have shred drops of blood which became an ocean. These drops were the sacrifices that they made willingly to bring Independence to our great nation. The main aim of their sacrifices were to ensure that their decadence do not live a life of oppression segregation and hunger.

After Independence, India has come a long way towards getting self-sufficient. Unity in Diversity has been a feature which is enviable to many other countries, which sees India as a threat.

The primary aspect that I like about Indian society is the people here are ready to ‘agree to disagree’. As a person with disabilities we all try to perform our duties toward our nation. And by performing the duties, we are taking a step forward towards inclusion. The inclusion had been a dream for those forefathers who wanted an egalitarian society.

I can understand and feel that many people with or without disabilities think about what the nation has given to them! Here, I would beg to disagree and reiterate the view of the Great President of America who was assassinated mainly due to his views on egalitarianism.

John F. Kennedy said while addressing a public gathering, “Ask not what your country has done for you… Ask what you have done for your county.”

As an individual, I totally agree with the view of President Kennedy. With this, I would like to request the brothers and sisters to take the first step, and you would find that help would automatically come to you and clear your path. The dream of an egalitarian society dazzled my mind when I read Chanakya where he discussed about India becoming the supreme power of the World.

Let us work for that society where people with or without disabilities would take equal responsibilities to make India the greatest nation. Let us fulfil the dream and pay homage to our forefathers.

My Lovely India

In this new millennium, gradually we have being experiencing a new and strong India, which would be a super power in our life-time itself.
Though our great nation had been suffering from poverty, malnutrition, women’s foeticide, agitated poor people’s movement, terrorism, etc. in spite of all these, we the Indians, the real Indians, the non-corrupt Indians, sees the beauty and the embracing power of this great nation. Sceptics would say, India is nothing but a place of vote bank politics but the will-full Indians would always live in this system and would always work for the benefit of the country. India has immense pool of natural resources, which have been exploited by the outsiders. But still we could fight with those people and protect our resources. India traditionally, is country of laid-back people and history has shown that since the time when Alexander the great Invaded us. During that time as well Indians did not get hot-headed to crush the great warrior first hand. We have a strategy, which is imprinted in our genes, i.e. to make our enemies tire and strike they are less willing to fight and when we start fighting we always try and finish the fight according to our terms. This particular example can be found in our fight for independence. The unique way of this diverse fighting for our right to freedom, puzzled the mighty British’ and compelled them to leave our country.
Once again during the early 90’s, when India faced the huge financial crisis as after the fall of the Soviet Union: Again the people had the guts to gut out the troubled time. And when we were forced to compete with the world economy, the mighty west had to look up-to us for the people and the policies of our nation. Due to the non-democratic establishment of China, ‘they may run like the hare’, that would become complacent at the end but continuous pressure of democracy would definitely take India passed China and that too within another fifteen years. On the eve of our 64th Independence Day, let us take a resolution that ‘We, the people of India, would crush the two problem areas: within and outside our country’. When I say within and outside the country, one common factor is linked and that is the phenomena of Terrorism. Let us make the terrorists and the nation which takes Terrorism as their state policy, tired and then when we strike, either that nation or the terrorists perish from the world.
Let us fight the poverty. And if 50% of people who are not in poverty take responsibility of one person then we need not depend on our corrupt Political establishment to fight poverty. Let them thieve as much as they would like to do but as Indian, let do things whatever little we can do for our brother, sisters and the generations to come.

Response as an AAC user:

Augmentative and Alternative Communication is an aspect in my life that has made me what I am now, even though I can speak now but being an AAC user for a significant period of my life has gave me the realization of the importance of communication. I come from a country where most of the population earn their living from farming but believe in re-incarnation. Now, if anyone asks me, in which part of the world I like to be born, in subsequent lives, my automatic and instinctive answer will be India.

Our country has a diverse cultural heritage. And people with disabilities are in the middle of a movement which would help them to lead a life with dignity. From the time immemorial, the word ‘respect’, is being used to describe a behavioral function, which has not changed. The respect, I am talking about can be for anyone, for any individual or any animal as well. But to me this word means ‘AAC’. During the time, when I could not communicate with anyone owing to the fact that I was partially verbal or non-verbal, this method gave me the power to communicate. But first of all allow me to acquaint you with a funny story, when AAC was introduced to me.

During my childhood days, as I gradually deteriorated, I lost my articulation or the power of speech. My teachers thought that I must have a means by which I would be able to communicate. When for the first time the communication board was brought in front of me, the anger and outright rejection was amazing, the overwhelming thought of communication empowerment because had I used it from then, I think it could have helped me to save some energy, which was exhausted unnecessarily. I cried the whole night because I realized ‘improperly’, that I would never be able to communicate with someone or anyone, IN A PROPER WAY.

The change in my life came with a very painful story, which can be laughed upon at this point of time. One day, during my school days, one of my friends who could walk pushed my wheelchair into the computer room for a lesson. While I was being wheeled by my friend, I could feel an ant moving around my lower back. As I entered the room, my whole body went into an innocuous spasm, as the ant decided to sting. One of the mentors of my life was the first computer teacher (Swati di) with whom I have worked with. Seeing me in that spasm, she asked the obvious question but how the hell would I had replied when I didn’t have any means! Perhaps the ant knew the fact that biting at a place which is not visible to others, would give it the pleasure to satisfy its hanger for the lifetime. Then innovation started, my computer teacher went on asking, - (YES, NO) questions. With the limited vocalization I had during that time, I was also trying to communicate. After twenty-five minutes, agonizing stinging, Swati di could understand the problem and removed the ant, which had a very comfortable twenty-six minutes previously.

I would like to thank this ant that made me realize, the importance of having a means of a communication aid. After that no insect especially ‘ants’ could circum me by stinging.

Then after that experience, I started to use the communication system effectively and assure you, it opened a new horizon for me. I could ask question to the people who had no idea about me, to surprise them. I even intervene during any family interaction to share my views. This gave me a power, which and control over a few thing that I never had. Hence on I learnt to take some responsibilities which were entrusted on me and enjoyed to fulfill those. So according to me, AAC is a means by which people like me could get the empowerment to let others know, about how they feel on many issues.

At this point of time, in my life, when I speak and communicate with all of you, sometimes I have take the help of AAC and technology to speak in conferences because when I speak for a significant time, my vocal organs cannot support my needs. Then, I use my computer for a while and in that case I would like to explain why it happens.

When I am interacting, I am getting 3, 5, 10, seconds break. While the other person makes his or point and I listen, unknowingly, I grasp some air which helps me to extend the conversation. This is not the case when I am speaking in any conference, in front of an audience and these are the times when I have to speak for 10, 15, 30 minutes at a stretch. So, I am still an AAC user, aren’t I?

Now, I would like to come to a controversial point. You may say, the thing that I am raising is a bit childish. At this point of time in my life, when I can speak, I see many people are afraid to communicate. Many people think that if they put a view, what would be the repercussion. This kind of thinking really amazes me because being an AAC user, I realize and I am sure many of my friends would agree with me, which is if one thinks about the feeling and not communicate, how do they expect that others would understand the feelings they have! I don’t know if there are that many mind readers around! If you ask me, I haven’t seen any in my lifetime.

If you: like some one, adore some one, respect some one, some times it is a very good idea to let that person know. If one disagrees with a point, it is always better to discuss about it and clear the misunderstanding. If communication is enhanced, between people and communities, according to me our planet could be a great place to live. Anyway, I am not stating that I do not like the planet the way it stand now, but just emphasizing on the point that it could have been better. I have observed this as an AAC user, many activities and negotiations which goes on around the world between various countries, could have been formulated in a better way.

In modern times, technology is very important in every spheres of life. With the help of this phenomenon, world has come to home for the people and taking this in into account I find a thought tickling my mind very often. This concern relates to those countries where basic human rights are being over-looked by the authorities for their own interests. Recently, the political turbulence in Northern Africa and Arab world has put a question in my mind. And I wish to know and understand the condition of the people with disabilities in these countries where the basic human rights are being defined.

In international media, we find many news about Afghanistan and Iraq since last decade. But I haven’t seen a single bit of coverage on the conditions of the disabled people of those counties where it seems, ‘war is a means of living’.

To conclude with I personally would like to ask and request the leaders of the world to look into the social sector and especially the problems of disabled people.

It matters not in which country we are in, what matters is that we are there and we also need the same means that is to lead a life of dignity and respect for all those brothers, sisters and friends who are there in those countries. Though pain is friend of ours but conquering it with the strength of mind and spreading the message of love to the various corners of the world is absolutely necessary. The AAC users are an integral part of the world population and I believe that we have to make sure to the authorities to recognize this unique population and help their cause.

God has send each and everyone of us by assigning a particular work or duty to be accomplish but the common thing that has to be spread in today’s world, is the ‘message of love’.

The AAC users must take the issue of our brothers and sister to the authorities so that we could reach to them and provide them the support.

Thank you.

something IMP

India has seen many political changes but in my lifetime, I can take the liberty to say that I have never seen anything like the great election which got rid of the Hippocratic Marxism in our Bengal.

India United

India as a nation probably was never that united that she became on the 2nd April, 10.45 PM. As the lofted shot of Dhoni landed in some twenty or thirty rows back, I felt with my heart and soul that we, the Indian can also conquer the world and beat champions after champions to become the champion. After the gap of 28 years, Indian cricket team brought the Cricket World Cup home once again, after 1983 but this time it was different. In the year of 1983, when I was 3 ½ years old, Kapil Dev’s team was not at all the favourites to win the World Cup. Hence, they had no pressure to perform match after match to the Cup. What they did was to play the matches according to the merits, gave their best and upset teams like Australia, England and the mighty West Indians.

During this World Cup of the new millennium, M. S. Dhoni’s team was the favourites to win the Cup. They were playing at their backyard and had to take relentless pressure from a billion people, and suffer the scrutiny of the experts to live with. At first, the team did not start the tournament in the right note; they could not defend a score of 338 against England and settled with a tie rather than an easy win. Then after that once again, excellent partnerships against the South Africans could not get the respect by other team members as India lost 7 wickets in around 30 runs and gave up a winnable match to the opponent. To me these hiccups were needed so that the team kept on their toes. The turning point of the tournament came in the quarter finals, when we won a tight match against the former world champions ‘Australia’. This particular match was so tight that a stage came when many people thought India would go out of the tournament! It took a great partnership between Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina to bend the tie in our fortune.

Pride is the word which has been used in a negative sense by many people, who unfortunately thinks that having pride harms the character of an individual. But according to me, having the pride and be proud about something brings out the best from an individual.

The pride of the Indian army is such, that to salvage the liberty of the people they smilingly take bullets right on their chests and save our country from falling to many enemies.

The team India that we are seeing now started to evolve as the Great Sachin Tendulkar, the pride of India, gave up the leadership position during the first half of 2000. When Indian cricket could have gone to the ruins, a character rose and came to take the responsibility on him to save the team from corruption. The attitude of team India started to change as The Sourav Ganguly rose as a leader of the billion people. It was for the first time that Australians were given the taste of their own medicines. The first strike which cracked the unbeatable tag of the Australians came at the Eden Garden, where a great, full counter-attack by the team of Sourav, made the mighty Australians crumble under pressure for the first time in many years. Skeptics thought that it was a one time phenomenon but they got their answers, slamming into their faces by that aggressive young role-model who would never shy away to thrash the oppositions by leading from the front.

I still remember a morning of the 3rd test of the same series in Chennai, where a batsman like Steve Waugh had to circum to such pressure that he got out by “Handling the Ball”. It was quite unexpected to many cricket experts as Waugh’s cool and calm composure could be disturbed by Sourav’s aggressive team strategy.

Then after that quite unexpectedly, team India reached the finals of 2003 World Cup in South Africa and that too in an unexpected manner. Nobody expected that a team which has weakness in bouncy tracks and moving ball could do that. The self belief that Sourav brought in team India once again could be seen as he himself scored a magnificent century at Brisbane, the second most bouncy track in Australia. He tackled Glenn McGrath and Brett Lee with an ease that as if he was tackling ‘his favourite’, any left-arm spinner in the world. And after that when India beat Pakistan in their home territory, the unique attitude was imprinted within any cricketer of India.

This particular night of 2nd April 2011, was the ultimate point that Indian cricket could reach. Now, the time has come where other teams would like to beat India just like it happened during 70’s & 80’s to the West Indian team and the whole of last decade to the Australian team.

A person from a very humble economic background and a gambler to many gave the nation, the moment which gave away the difference between the people for their caste, class, region and religion. Our nation was united after a very long time when people actually forgot who they were and was proud to be Indians. It was a day which can be compared with every day of our freedom movement where we were always united. But this time the politicians were not the masters who united the people, though they have the power to unit the country but it seems that some vested interest do not allow them to do so.

M. S. Dhoni had a horrible tournament as a batsman. Many people said and teased to tell that he should be a non-playing captain but now I would like to see their blackened faces. When time came, he took the responsibility upon himself to show what a leader can do. Mastering the fear is the most important aspect of a leader. Dhoni did so like he was destined to do so. A true leader would always like to go and lead from the front. Even after he took the trophy from the podium itself he talked about the mistakes that he made. He told that the mistakes would be overlooked as the team won the cup. But I think he would never overlook the mistakes owing to fact that he is a great leader. I hope he brings many successes to India and I would like to request some politicians who make the policy decision to accept the mistakes because MS has shown that accepting the mistakes and taking the responsibilities brings success to the person and the nation.

I hope the republic of India stays united and many honest people comes up to take leadership positions and share the immense responsibilities by throwing out the corrupts and standing up against them. It is possible as last ten years of Indian cricket history has shown that.

For Namam, (My Grandmother) with Love.

Ma,
I loved her.
I expressed the love in a differently.

She laughed,
She cried,
She cared for me.

 I know what ‘Ma’ means.
So, Ma…
I pray to God… that she rests in peace…

Great Indian Marriage:

Commonwealth games 2010 which was held in New Delhi, indeed was a very up hailing, controversial issue but a path finding event in India’s sporting history.

Though, firstly owing to various controversies, this mega event faced the danger of going into dungeons. Till the opening ceremony most of the learned population of India was disgusted about miss-management and the financial controversies of the games. But in India there is a say and which is followed from the time immemorial. It is that everything is like an “Indian Wedding”, where till the wedding is over, nobody knows what would be happening! This phrase was used time and again by the electronic media in national and international events. This so called “India wedding” gave a path finder to the sporting fraternity and competitors. There were lots of people who did not appear in the media, came and conquered the hearts and minds of Indian public.

It was the first time that Indian gymnastics came into reckoning in any international arena. A young villager from Utter Pradesh got a Bronze and a Silver medal in the Floor Exercise and Volt respectively. Hopefully, if without any infrastructure available, this young UP-iat brings the glory, then a new generation would be motivated to take Gymnastics seriously than many other common sports: this way the new brand of Gymnasts that would come up in international arena, would affect India’s image across the world.

Saina Nehwal, the know Indian Shuttler, and one of the most successful sportswoman of India did something unique that probably was overlooked by many of us.  Before she started playing her singles final, India and England were equal in Gold medals tally and we were at third place owing to England’s better overall medals tally. Had she lost the final match: India would have lost the unique opportunity of finishing second position, in an International sporting event. But this young shuttler, not only won a gold medal but she also made our country proud by putting India in the second position. This performance gave a hidden message to the world,  that India as well as her new generation is motivated enough, to give more that their hundred percent to make the country proud.

After the commonwealth games, the image of India’s sporting fraternity would automatically change around the world and hence we all hope that the western domination and Chinese methodical training will be overcome by India’s hard work.

After all the displeasure of various people, India has shown that even if the things aren’t ready to host any international event, we always make sure that the infrastructures of the game or any international event is perfectly ready to use even one minute before the event start.

Internationally, we may have been reputed as last minute worker’s, that is why in near future, India; as a nation would rise rapidly than any other nation could have imagined. India’s brand name, internationally would be benefited as we have proven that we are the people who have the capability to finish something at the very last moment.

Just think.

I want.
I would like.
These are the words not made for people like us!

Why?
Why do I say this!

See a creeper, and what do you see?
Don’t you think that it can dream as well!

Surprised, are you: aren’t you?
Why. Don’t you think, a creeper can dream to grow of its own?
It also wants to have strong trunk!
Don’t you think it also want others to depend on it?

Do you know it can actually achieve all its dream?

How? Do you ask how?

Just help it. Help by giving it a stick.
And you could see it would really contribute to the beauty.

Don’t you want to try it out?
I think you should.

You would realize,
The stick that is supporting the creeper,
Would also be happy that it helped the nothing to becoming something:
Not only the creeper, but the stick would also thank you and bless you.

The Right to Love:

My dear darling,
Like the wind that brushes the lives
And
The lives dance with the tickling loving touch,

I love to love you.

But if I love you,
I do not care if you do….
I love because you are there to be loved.

It need not be the case
Where
I expect the same!

To me love is happiness,
So
Seeing you happy would make me believe
That my love is not fake…

Loving you and not possessing
Is the truth
Because
It is my right to love.

 Having you to love me
Is
Not the priority.
It is just that it is the most fantastic feeling
Which
I have when I found,
I have the RIGHT TO LOVE YOU.

High time for a big change………

I am here, in front of you because I spent most of my life as an AAC user and during that time I attended many international conferences. I won the Words-Plus outstanding lecture award during ISAAC conference held in Natal Brazil. Even though I can speak at this point of my life still times come when I get stuck and I take help of assistive technology for that stagnation..

To me, be an Indian is one of the many things for which I am proud of. As India is the largest democracy in the world, we have the freedom to choose our representative, who would speak for us. But there are some basic problems for people with disabilities to cast their vote by which they would be able to choose their representative.

When I get to speak about civil and political rights for persons with disabilities, I get amazed to think that this small minority community was never got counted in census, a very important phenomenon in our country. Persons with disabilities were counted in 1931, and after that in 2001. Though we, the person with disabilities were counted in 2001 but there was a huge discrepancy in that data. It is quite impractical to think that only 2½ percent of total population is challenged!! The problem with these kinds of data is, if the person with disabilities are not being counted with some accuracy how can  we expect to get the basic human rights, which are needed to lead a respectful life?  And when we are denied of the most important right i.e. “the right to be the citizenship”, we just cannot expect to have an individual and independent identity!!

In our country very often we see a closely contested election. In spite of using electronic voting machines, we find many times the candidates request for recounting and often win.. Currently, we can take the example of our Home Minister who was elected in the Lok Sabha after recounting. When we the Indians have such strong likes and dislikes, why do the disabled population should be left outside of this process?

Do the authorities think that we the person with disabilities should not be trusted with the ballots! Or do they have some other interest that we do not know; of do they think that we are simply dumps!!!

We understand that infrastructure is one of the reasons why we face some difficulties to cast our vote. And also owing to a few rules of Election Commission: (mainly where they have divided booths according to part numbers), people with disabilities face problem. But how long do we have to wait?
If we think realistically the architectural modification cannot be done over night. If that is so do the authorities expect that we are not going to cast our vote and wait till the time when these modifications are made? This is absurd.

In any case I am not saying, changing the architectural barrier is not possible but it would take some time. Instead what I would like to emphasize is,  while these architectural modifications are being made we must have the opportunity to vote, which is one of the most important rights for anyone who lives in a democracy. Many of my friends had experienced problem as they went to vote. The polling booths were not accessible, hence they could not vote.

If I have to make a suggestion on this issue, I would request the commission to think of making one room in every polling station accessible or wheelchair friendly. Keep a special EVM (Electronic Voting Machine) which would cater the needs of all spectrum of challenged people. This facility would not only help the people with disabilities but it would also help the elderly persons who suffer from geriatrics problems.

I believe there is a huge debate going on around the country about who can vote and who cannot. There are many other debates, which are talking about can and connotes but right to vote is something which is very different that those other debates.

Finally I would like to mention in my  early years as an AAC user when I went to cast my vote, I had to depend on someone whom I could trust with my heart and soul. People often asked me that why do I feel it so important to vote?  My simple answer would be, IT IS MY CHOICE and MY RIGHT. I faced many problems to vote during that time, but when people saw that I was very serious about casting my vote regularly, they realized that I could not be de-motivated from voting. I used to suggest my trusted person to let others take me to the polling area  so that they can also realize our problems deeply and honestly.

My earnest request to Election Commission and Government of India is to implement the Supreme Court order of 2004 which will ensure the most important right as Citizen of India.

I would like to share some the information about me. Thought, I am a person with disabilities but I enjoy life. I have a unique like story in which I had to lead a life with a physical condition which was worse. I have represented my nation in a few international conferences, where I had the opportunity to present papers.

I would like to make a difference to the society. I started this Blog owing to the fact that I love my mother land.

I would like to request you to tell me, if you feel for any topics, which I could write an article.

Just Think Start now, it‘s not too-o late

The modern society is evolving in a manner that has many positives, as well as a few negatives. Though our country is one of the fastest growing economies in the world but it is a fact that a significant percentage of population still struggle to have the basic need to lead a respectful life. In this significant percentage there is a noticeable group whom we refer as disable people, or by many other terminologies.

Now let me give a personal introduction. I am doing so because I believe other may not relate with my point of views and it would help me to establish my points. In other words some of you may ask me some things which I would only be able to answer if I give all of you a background of myself.

The way you are seeing me now, sitting on my wheelchair upright and speaking just like many of you do: if you had seen me before 18th November 2005, you would have found me in a worse physical condition. During that time, to communicate I used an alternative method that augmented my communication. With the help of others and the blessing of almighty, I was fortunate to develop myself.

Now at this juncture of my life when I have crossed the age of completing my formal education, I am pursuing my graduation. I do not want to talk about the nitty-gritty of my life but I just want to highlight on the matter that one need not be considered educated with relation to the number of ‘certificates’ he or she owns. To me the concept of education is something else, to which many of you may not be agreeing. It is the hunger of KNOWLEDGE, which will prevent oneself from getting exploited and that in itself gives an impetuous to live, and make a difference to the society.

The person who is advocating is a product himself of this system. In this great nation of ours, many prior generations used to believe that embracing the goods of the grand and diverse cultural and heritage would bring the best and that will make this country a great one.

According to me, there is difference between other deprived group and people who lead their life with some disabilities.  If one takes the context of exploitation, then we see many cases are being reported by the print and electronic media and some of them are pursued till the justice is being done. But have any one ever thought, why there are no significant numbers of cases of abuse and exploitation is reported from the side of people with disabilities?

Is it because people with disabilities are not exploited or abused? Does the people with twisted mind, pick and chose whom they want to victimize?

No, these are ridicules points. First let me ask you a question and that is why do you think that it is important to have the power of communication?
To me it is the most essential aspect in animal kingdom. When we are able to express ourselves with the language that is comprehendible to our fellow human beings; we share our feelings easily.

There are many kinds of disabilities where a person cannot communicate and now let me ask another question to you all. How would you feel when you are misunderstood owing to a miss-communication, by someone, who really matters in your life?

One more question to you all. If you are not well and there is no one to whom you can ask for help, what would you do?

When we talk about life threatening diseases amongst person with disabilities then we must understand a simple problem may lead to life threatening disease. Owning to the problem in communication or complex communication need to certain disabilities this can occur.

If it happens to me that I feel some discomfort, I can easily tell anyone around. By this people can intervene early to prevent some big problem. Early intervention is very important in most of the major diseases like cancer.

In our country the awareness’ about disability is actually very less. In certain parts of India it is still considered as a curse and many families keep their children with disabilities hidden in a small corner of the house. In many other places the disabled people do not get a chance to obtain education. Thus they are unable to have the knowledge which might help them to survive.

It is a challenge to all of us that will give the society a new dimension. With all our effort, we must bring out those people with disabilities from the families which consider it as a curse. And to those people who are yet to have the benefits of “some Govt. policies which actually exists on ground”. The people in the social sector must take them to those people who are deprived even though they do not take the disability as a curse. According to me the main aspect which must be emphasized upon is education. Only educating people with or without disabilities would bring more awareness’ for disabled people and prevent or save people from many killer diseases. This is applicable to many other deprive groups as well.

Now I wish to say a few words on a problem which exists in all sphere of our society including disable people. In our county and society, the word ‘sex’, is being used as if it has a taboo tagged with it. Though we have evolved and traveled a long way from the medieval era but when it is the time to educate the generation, about the ‘tabooed word’ we always shy away. In case of the people with disabilities this ignorance is more because the dearest ones, would also like to protect, them from ‘all evils of the society’. On the contrary if one is given the proper information and education on the changes which is natural in all human beings after a certain age; surely it will help the person.

The special institutes for the people with disabilities must understand the need of it. Directly or indirectly it will prevent many killer diseases with the knowledge of sexuality of one’s self. With that it will also prevent abuse. In a so called normal society, the children get the chance of having the school syllabus and interacting with the peer group and by discussing they clarify about the doubts on hormonal and chemical reactions.

Whereas for the people with disabilities grow up in a closed and protected environment. We do not have a huge circle, from where we can gather information. So it is absolutely necessary for some nearest of the person with disabilities to take care of one of the most important aspect of education.

In many of your mind the obvious question may tickle! That is what happened in my case? & my answer is, I am very fortunate to have a very supportive and motivating parents and I am positively sure that many of you here are also fortunate to have the priceless guidance of your parents. My father being a doctor by profession, shares a special equation with me. One day, while teaching, he drifted from the actual subject to give me the knowledge which has helped me, in a way that helps my psyche to develop in a matured manner.

At this point of time I have the optimism that changes which we are experiencing, will move in a faster way. If you ask, what is the reason of the optimism? My answer would be: in my life-time the position of the person with disabilities has changed and that too for the betterment. The skeptics may argue that only in the urban area this has happened.

To me this argument reminds, the old ‘cliché’, “If the glass is half full or half empty”. Many optimists like me would say it takes a hell of a lot of effort to get a ball or a wheel rolling.

Could anyone have thought that our nation would be considered as one of the most powerful economies in the world when the British left our land by dividing India? But it is a fact that we have evolved to become the 2nd fastest growing economy. Just like that various social movements especially in disability sector have given us a life. From various urban areas the work to uplift the life of many people with disabilities is spreading into the rural parts of our country. It is our responsibility to take this movement to the remotest corners so that the overall lifestyle of these people can be made better. By the betterment of the lifestyle, we not only empower these people but also we will prevent the life-threatening diseases and early intervention would also be possible.

Even though the society is gradually being aware of the problems of the persons with disabilities but to many of us the change is slow. The complexity of our society is so’ rapidly evolving that the basic human rights of disable people are taken as granted by many activists who themselves are fighting to raise the standard of living of different deprive groups. In some cases we are talking about the same problems but these voices are being separated. According to me time has come when it has become a necessity to unite different voices so that the authorities take them more seriously.

I think, I am lucky to be born as an Indian owing to the fact that our establishment and culture give the right to speak freely. Our nation is a unique one as in spite of our differences we take pride of our Indian-ness. We can always pursue and discuss our problem peacefully with the responsible authorities. Even in our sector we have changed the mindset of some people who had different thought process before.

Human being endowed by nature is reflective and active. Only we and not other animals have the ability to abstract and represent the experiences through symbols’ and letters, language and other mediums’ of communication. Here I would like to emphasize on the basic concept of India. In this modern world we are regarded as a country with difference. Our main value (unity in diversity) is acknowledged.

To me, the population which is being marginalized over the years shows one more aspect of our Indian-ness. The word ‘resilience’ which has somewhat become a cliché, is in fact THE WORD that can describe the disable people, especially in our nation. Even with the condition, which is not in our side, we try; we try to live our lives with a smile. But we also want ourselves to live the life with freedom, dignity, and less physical pain that engross our body along with the physical deformities’.

Ideally, knowledge should be objective and uniform but given the current uneven developments in the world, it becomes difficult, at times impossible, to stay away from biases and not to advocate the case of those who have been historically deprived for no fault of their own. In such situations, it is easy to bypass the cause which pricks our mind. But people who need help will embrace all of us, if we stand up to take care of some problems which you and I may not face in our life-time. The happiness; this embracement would bring the pleasure which none of us would be able to experience ever.

We cannot change everything because we do not have the magic wand of Harry Potter. Even he had to struggle and take all the pain and irony of the life. This take me to the conclusion, Changes cannot or should not come over night, or else we: ourselves would never value them

When they ask..

When they ask,
What am I?

I reply,
Am an IICPun!

IICPun?
Yes.
And I am proud to be an…
If there are
Xabirian, Oxonian, Cantab,
Why there cannot be an IICPun?

Sweet hurt,
I have the tall pride,
As if the common Roman Roamed.

My Love,
No, I may look
Ragged, Torn, ill-fated beast,
But this poor beast, who couldn’t hunt,
Prowls to gather the fragrance of success.

My lady,
Protagonist, You see, in me
Could not have been one,
If was not an IICP-an…

The Spell

I know,
What is the pain when you cannot express yourself…
I know,
Because I experienced it…
I know,
The joy of expression,
And
How wonderful
You feel
when you can express yourself after 25 years.
I know,
The joy of friendship,
And
How it feels when I talk to express my,
 Thoughts,
Ideas,
Joys,
Sorrows,
Tires,
Lighters,
Pains,
Happiness,
With you.
Yes, O yes,
These are the essentials’,
needed to make a patronus,
And
It takes all the dementors from me.
But,
I wish to make a spell strong,
So strong
that I see,
The smiling of thou
On the mirror of Arised.

Power..

Oh river you are so beautiful..
So gorgeous
In the mountains
In the plains
Where you the curve
In the great Indian valleys
Has anyone ever adore your contribution!!
From ancient time?
To this ancient human civilization…
Has anybody thought?
Of your pain
You flow
Crashing
Thudding
As you get to the plains
You start to take
The role of a mother..
You arrive to the needy,
                                              They harvest,
They worship you,
People respect you
We respect your contributions
But I love you,
Yes I love you
Because I know
In front of your
Sacrifice
Will
The love for your people
The determination
Anger
Arrogance.
My love for you
My respect for you
My gratitude toward you..
Simply
Overwhelm
Me!!

Know it all..

I know I do not understand many things…
But can you say who dose?

I know I have many limitations..
But can you say who do not?

I know some times I act as mad…
But can you say who do not?

Do I know what is trust,
Whom to trust,
Where,
&
How to trust?

Knowing it I cannot stop trusting the wrong person, time and time again…
But I wish to know,
How many times people have broken your heart?

Only because you cannot stop trusting,
Knowing what I know…
When a new born,
Is born,
The mother thinks it is the greatest gift,
Of God…

Knowing that a day,
It will retort…
What am I?
Who am I?
Do I know this lot?
But I know one thing,
O my lot…

Thing you say is elution…
But be sure that
I know is a secret,
Yes. A secret
&
That it a sacred…
LOVE…
… Love me & YOU shall find,
The meaning of the word…

I am not an artist ..

I am not an artist… like
Tagore, Shakespeare or Mozart.
I do not know
To write,
To express,
The feelings, that I have,
By poems.

I do not know
To express,
The feelings, that I have,
With the brilliant act of plays.

I... even cannot
Express,
The feelings that I have,
With notes & tunes,
Of Violin,

BUT.

It is said,
Words like,
Grateful, Thanks & Sorry
Do not, have any place,
In Friendship…

Even then, today,
I would like to say,

O’ God,
Thank you,
That you,
Blesses me,
With thou, … as friend.

I thank thou,
As thou,
Has taken me as friend.

Grand-ness

You are the most beautiful young phenomenon on this beautiful planet.
Your magnitude attracts people from around the world.
You cannot be conquered without your permission.
You have the right to reject those people you don’t like.
Those you like, you bring them back year after year;
To those people whom you love most you give them the ultimate paradise and you keep them forever!
You gave life to India.
You show your beauty in full moon nights,
In broad daylight.
You absorb the first rays of the sun.
O you look so beautiful that your beauty cannot be compared with anything of this planet.
I bow, bow and bow in front of your magnitude.

Asking ...

I don’t know?
Why I miss you so much when everyone was around me,
For my praising me for work!
I don’t know?
Why I missed you so much when I was suppose to enjoy every moment,
When I was having a break,
While having my breakfast,
Having my lunch,
Dinner,
While having my drink!
Every moment I missed your smile!
Your voice,
Jokes,
Every time I looked at the river!
Do you knew,
What I did see?
No my friend,
There,
 In the banks,
It was you?
Or
Was it?
I knew you was thousands of miles away…
But my friend I knew you where praying for me,
For my success.
That echoed my friend.
And that was so peaceful..
That gave me,
A beautiful night’s sleep.
Your player kept me….
